What They’re Saying: Ron Johnson’s TV Ad on the Joseph Project and “Giving Back to the Community”

Ron launched his latest TV ad of the campaign yesterday about his work with the Joseph Project –  a community-based initiative that is providing a path out of poverty for people in inner-city Milwaukee by connecting them with good-paying jobs, many of them in manufacturing.

The story of the Joseph Project earned statewide and national media coverage, and got the attention of Gov. Jeb Bush and other advocates of conservative solutions to poverty.

Check out what they’re saying:

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “U.S. Republican Sen. Ron Johnson is up Wednesday with a new statewide television and digital ad that focuses on the Joseph Project, his initiative to connect people in Milwaukee with jobs in Sheboygan. Johnson and Pastor Jerome Smith of the Greater Praise Church of God in Christ discuss the program. ‘There are 80- to 100,000 jobs going unfilled in Wisconsin, and yet you have all these high levels of unemployment in the inner-city of Milwaukee. The Joseph Project’s goal and mission is to make those connections,’ Johnson says. ‘We have Ron Johnson giving back to the community, and giving back to the people of Milwaukee,’ says one of the program participants, Michael Bradley.”

WisPolitics: “GOP U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson is going up on TV with another positive bio spot, this time focusing on his work with a program that seeks to connect those in inner-city Milwaukee with jobs. The ad features Pastor Jerome Smith, who adds, ‘The Joseph Project is breaking cycles of all kind of poverty. Because without a good-paying job, you can’t put food on the table.’ Johnson says the jobs are good-paying and ‘careers’ before the ad cuts to Joseph Project participant Michael Bradley. ‘We have Ron Johnson giving back to the community, and giving back to the people of Milwaukee’ Bradley says. ‘I don’t see nobody else doing that.’”

Politico Morning Score: “Johnson hypes Joseph Project: Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson continues his pursuit of Democratic votes with an ad focused on his work developing The Joseph Project, a nonprofit that connects inner-city Milwaukee residents with jobs in the suburbs. ‘The Joseph Project is breaking cycles of all kinds of poverty,’ one program participant says in the ad. ‘The Ron Johnson you don’t know is changing lives in our community,’ text on the screen reads at one point.”

The Hill: “Job Creator: … Ron Johnson’s campaign launched ads highlighting the Wisconsin Republican’s work to help start a local group that helps connect Wisconsinites to jobs.”

Opportunity Lives: “U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) is best known as a successful businessman who has quickly ascended in the U.S. Senate. But Wisconsinites know him a bit differently: as a community leader who wants others to succeed, too. … ‘The Joseph Project is breaking cycles of all kind of poverty. Because without a good-paying job, you can’t put food on the table,’ Pastor Jerome Smith, co-founder of The Joseph Project, explains. Their efforts have paid off. Today, many Milwaukee residents can thank Johnson and The Joseph Project for preparing them for the workforce, connecting them to employment possibilities and providing transportation to their jobs.”
