U.S. Senator Ron Johnson said the root cause of the massacre in Orlando is Islamic terrorism.
Johnson appeared Sunday on “UPFRONT with Mike Gousha.” As chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Johnson said they’re trying to learn as much as they can about the events leading up to shooting at the Pulse nightclub so they can prevent tragedies in the future.
“We have to defeat ISIS. We have to tenaciously be committed to eradicating Islamic terrorism from the world,” Johnson said.
Johnson said he’s reached out to Facebook to learn more about shooter Omar Mateen.
When asked if gun laws need to change, Johnson said, “Nobody wants to allow a terrorist or would-be terrorist access to any weapon.”
He added, “At the same time, take a look at the constitutional rights, liberties, Islamic terrorists have already eroded in this country. I’ll look at any solution that will actually solve this problem and prevent tragedies but I’m not for charade solutions.”
